5 Steps Pulp Shred Takes To Be Green

Pulp Shred is Calgary’s greenest document security, destruction and recycling company. While many companies claim to be green, they don’t always take the actions to follow through. Being environmentally conscious is important to us and is part of our company DNA. We take steps and put in place policies and procedures to ensure we are doing what we can to be a green company. The following are five steps we take to be green, and how they impact the environment.

1. State-Of-The-Art Shredding Technology

We use state-of-the-art shredding technology to shred your paper. Our shredding technology leads to higher quality paper fiber. This is important because paper fibers are only usable five to seven times. High-quality paper fiber makes better quality paper when recycled. When the paper fiber is low quality, it will be mixed with new paper fiber to get the desired quality of paper. Higher quality paper fiber means that less new paper fiber is being used. It also lasts longer and can be recycled again.

2. Zero Landfill Paper Waste

When we shred your paper, we process the shredded paper to form compact paper bales. This means there is a 100% conversion of your shredded paper into new paper products, therefore resulting in zero-landfill paper waste. With no paper waste, none of your shredded paper goes into a landfill, and it all gets recycled. Did you know every 1 ton (or 2000 pounds) of recycled paper, saves 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space? Pulp Shred’s closed-loop system ensures your shredded paper comes back as new paper products. This includes printer paper, paper bags, facial tissues, toilet rolls, and newsprint.

3. Dust Filtration System

Paper shredding produces fine paper dust, leading to poor air quality. This can harm the environment and people, as well as become hazardous. Apart from regular maintenance, cleaning, and vacuuming of our shredding equipment and workspace, we use a dust filtration system for clean air and a safe work environment for our employees. Proper containment and filtration of dust inside our compact shredding facility means little or no pollution that gets outside.

4. Fuel-Efficient Vehicles

At Pulp Shred, we use smaller fuel-efficient vehicles for commercial and residential services. The less fuel a vehicle uses, the fewer emissions the vehicle exhausts. Vehicular emissions are harmful to us, as well as the environment. Fuel-efficient vehicles help reduce pollution and smog by at least 50%! By using fewer fossil fuels and releasing fewer emissions, fuel-efficient vehicles are a way Pulp Shred keeps down its carbon footprint.

5. No Idling

Every time we stop our vehicles to go into a business or home, we turn off our vehicles. We have a no-idling policy to help keep the air cleaner. Did you know, during ten minutes of idling one pound of carbon dioxide gets released? Carbon dioxide is a primary contributor to global warming. The pollution from vehicle idling has been linked to a wide variety of serious illnesses. So not only does this help the environment, but it also has positive health impacts.

We care about the environment, as much as we care about your document’s security. That is why we take concrete steps to be a green company. By using Pulp Shred, you will not only be making a positive impact on the environment, but you will also be raising awareness for the environment, strengthening your brand’s image, and securely destroying confidential documentation.
